Feeders uniformly convey a product or material to a process or machine. The advantage of using a feeder is that the rate of material fed is consistent, with some types of feeders offering a high amount of precision. Screw feeders use either a single or twin screw drive to feed product and can be of the volumetric type, which measures product based on the rate of the screw drive, or of the loss-in-weight type, which uses a scale system to measure how much product has been fed. Vibratory bowl feeders feed individual items, such as fasteners. Vibratory feeders vibrate a trough to feed material. Belt weighers use a conveyor to feed product and measure the feed amount with a belt scale.
